For this work, he applied pigments and sawdust onto linen canvas, then left the work to the hand of nature as it dried and cracked. Having spent time in Japan, Sodi draws a particular reference from the aesthetics of wabi-sabi as a major influence—a philosophy that embraces imperfection and reveres natural authenticity above all.
